My little dog - a heartbeat at my feet. ~Edith Wharton

When we still had snow - which seems like months ago, we were blessed with some beautiful skies.  So many  shades of pink.

The dog has found a new love - Vicki is number one hero now as she has been sooo good at walking Freyja

Total and utter contentment!

We went to dinner at Ólafshús on Friday night - Olga and Ross left on Saturday.  Vicki was quite taken with the size of the butter portions that we have here....

And thank you for a house full of people I love. Amen. ~Ward Elliot Hour

Again, no pictures,  can't find the camera....

So just a quick run down of life to date.

It's great!!!!  It has been so wonderful having Ross, Olga and Vicki here with us.  Have really enjoyed having them here.  So far, they have had to endure the endless boredom of life in Sauðárkrókur during the winter months,  þorra mat as well - see Olga and Vicki's blog to see all the gruesomeness of that.

Tonight Ross started learning Icelandic online, so I think it will be a matter of weeks before he speaks it fluently... he's that sort of guy..

I read the Tarot for the gang and realised that I am useless at it (hey I think I figured that years ago) nevertheless, it was interesting... We also watched the last show of Dr Who with David Tenant... call me a nerd - but I love the Dr.

Olga and Ross leave us this weekend, it will be sad, it is always sad when we have to say goodbye, even if only for a little while...  It will ofcourse be worse for Freyja when Vicki goes,  I doubt that I will be able to full fill the walking needs that she has, but I guess I will try to do my best.

As a side note, Icelandic real estate folks and others who are supposed to see about selling houses, land whatever - suck!

It doesn't hurt to be optimistic. You can always cry later. ~Lucimar Santos de Lima

No pictures this week, just a run down on what has been happening....

Since New Year we have eaten well, drunk well and basically had a really relaxing time.  For further information see Olga and Vicki´s blogs...

The weather here has been pretty amazing compared with the rest of Europe and the world in general.  Here we are in the plus temps whilst the rest of Europe is wondering how to cope with snow and ice.  Australia on the other hand seems to be having a pretty hot time...  Again, I realise that I picked the right place to live.

Icesave is back on the agenda again ... as usual I won´t be discussing this here - look to icelandweatherreport and elvira's blog that I have given links to on facebook  (www.elvira.blog.is).

I was about to say something about me being a poor host to Vicki, Olga and Ross.... then I realised that they would then comment saying oh no.... so lets just hope that they look at this as a very relaxing holiday - without the umbrellas in the drinks and the warm weather..

Work is good, busy but nice.  Árni is off to Australia and New Zealand to work on a documentary on Icelandic horses in the Southern Hemisphere, an Icelander giving advice to NZ farmers and NZ slaughterhouse workers working in Iceland... Should be good.  Árni is the maker of Kraftur for those who have seen the dvd about the man and his horse.  I must admit that the work that I am doing now is the most diversified that I have ever had... the work itself is basic book keeping but the subject matter of my clients is just so different.  From film maker, small fisherboat man, dairy farmer, sheep farmer, a man with a digger, a block of flats for the elderly to a book about the history of the farms in Skagafjordur...    Such a wonderful variety of folk that I deal with.  I am truly blessed.

Next weekend mum is hosting the family dinner... this time traditional Icelandic winter foods... I promise - there will be photos... ie it's a warning that next weeks content may not be to everyone's liking.

New Year

So here we are at the start of a New Year, full of potential and the unknown.  Last night to see the end of 2009 some friends gathered at my house for a night of feasting.

Here is Olga preparing the smoked salmon california rolls.

She did an extremely good job.

For entre it was the california rolls along with smoked salmon on toast.  There were 11 of us...

No more photos were taken by me of the food or the dinner table as I was too busy eating and drinking, for main it was smoked back of pig and leg of lamb, dessert was the old favourite - the berry thing.....

After dinner we played a game called party and co - not bad - did not manage to finish it before the end of year comedy was on the television.  This years was pretty good, we all laughed and that is always a good sign.

Once this was over it was almost time to walk up the hill... We decided to go up to the cemetery this year and watch the fire works in town from up there - good decision - the view was amazing.  The fire works lasted for about 20 minutes.

Guðný and Bryndís....

Woke up today just after midday and after the essential cup of coffee, took Freyja for a walk.  It was another beautiful day in Skagafjörður.  The crows were having a bit of a meeting down by the old post office.  These two stayed to let me take their photo.
